‘Nozomi’ means 'hope' in Japanese. The Nozomi Project is a social venture in Ishinomaki that employs and instructs locals in the art of jewellery making. It was established in the wake of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Pottery that was destroyed in the earthquake is given new life by the artists who turn it into unique and special pieces of jewellery. Each piece embraces the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi: there is beauty to be found in the broken.
Truly unique, and very special, this piece is named 'hatsu hi', a Japanese term for the first sunrise of the New Year - a new start.
Featuring an ornate framed pendant and a thick gold cable chain with an engraved floral design on the back. The charm is made from a fragment of china, and the chain and mount are 24k gold plated.
Gift wrapped in a velvet pouch
