Chigiri Cat Figurine: Hachiware

In a pose somewhere between a ninja and a J-pop singer, these adorable figurines are crafted in Japan from layers of handmade washi paper, also known as chigiri.

They're moulded in a technique known as hariko, the Japanese art of making animal figurines from hardened paper. It’s a craft dating back to the Mingei folk art period.

They add a sweet touch to a shelf or mantlepiece, in case you’re ‘feline’ cute.
