Sahten: The SkatePal Palestinian Cookbook
£35
‘Sahten' is the Arabic equivalent to ‘bon appetit’. This is one part cookbook, one part portrait of the Palestinian skateboarding scene told through food.
It's produced by SkatePal, a non-profit organisation supporting young Palestinian people and communities through the joy that is skateboarding.
Features recipes from Palestine’s skateboarding community, shop owners, local heroes and famous Palestinian chef Sami Tamimi.
You’ve got your classics: maqlubah, shakshuka, malfouf and mussakhan, the secret tricks to making the perfect falafel and Arabic coffee, and more unconventional instructions, like how to turn a tired old skateboard into a new chopping board.
Alongside the recipes are personal stories and anecdotes from local skaters and famous chefs, photos of the Palestinian skateboarding scene, and even a yoga sequence to help ease any skate-related aches and pains.
Each dish is illustrated as part of a collaboration between Palestinian-Canadian skater Noor Abouseido and some of the young skaters from SkatePal’s sessions in Palestine.
