Komatsuna are hardy and mustardy green leaves which grow spicier with maturity. Use them in salads, stir fries or steamed as an unusual alternative to spinach. In Japan they’re often pickled and kept in the fridge as a healthy snack.

It’s almost impossible to buy this vegetable fresh in the UK and it’ll add some authentic flavour to your Asian cooking.

Grow indoors on a sunny windowsill or in a greenhouse, or sow outdoors in the Spring after the last frost.
