For those short on outdoor space, some seeds to grow your own edible plants indoors. Harvest your own Shiso aka Japanese Basil.

The Japanese use these fragrant, iron-rich leaves as a garnish for cold noodle and tofu dishes when young, and when mature to wrap onigiri (rice balls), fried in tempura batter as a crispy side dish or even as a pizza topping.

It’s almost impossible to buy this seasoning fresh in the UK and it’ll add some authentic Japanese flavour to sushi, salads, curries and stir fries.

Grow indoors on a sunny windowsill or in a greenhouse, or sow outdoors in the Spring after the last frost.
