Uchiki Kuri Seeds
£4
Beautifully packaged seeds to start your own Asian kitchen garden, featuring artwork by the eminent 19th Century botanist Iwasaki Tsunemasa.
Aka the Hokkaido Pumpkin, Uchiki Kuri is a bright orange squash for dark winter days. With wonderfully sweet and nutty flesh, they’re a bit like a butternut but easier to grow. Harvest when mature and they can be kept for up to three months in a cool, dry pantry. Hugely ornamental and looks attractive climbing on frames.
Monty Don has been known to grow a Uchiki Kuri or two in his own vegetable patch.
It’s almost impossible to buy this vegetable fresh in the UK and it’ll add some authentic flavour to your Asian cooking.
Sow outdoors in the Spring after the last frost.
