The word ‘shokunin’ is defined in Japanese as ‘mastery of one’s profession’. Hand-made in Aichi Japan by woodworker Tomoharu Funahashi, these trinket boxes epitomise shokunin craftsmanship.
Tomoharu combines time-honoured Japanese woodworking traditions with innovative techniques, bending, planing, chiseling, turning and painting wood with great precision and attention to detail.
He makes these beautiful round boxes by mixing sawdust and cashew paint as a substitute for urushi lacquer, giving each piece a unique character and charm. Sure to stand the test of time, this chest is an objet d’art to cherish for generations.
UK exclusive.
Measures approx. 10.5cm across.
