Hiba Bath Stool Kodai-iro

£110

With over three thousand hot spring baths (onsens) in the country, the Japanese way of living is steeped in the culture of bathing. Bathing in an onsen or in a sento (a communal bath) is viewed as a way of purifying the body and soul. Traditionally you would sit on a stool to rinse off the body just before entering the bath.

Our handcrafted stool is made in Japan from traditional Japanese hiba wood: revered for its natural antibacterial properties and strong resistance to humidity and mould. It’s also light and water resistant, making it ideal for use in the bathroom or sauna.

Hiba is considered to be one of the most beautiful trees in Japan, growing only in the mountainous north. We’ve selected a stool with a classic and sleek design and stained using an ancient colour "kodai-iro" 古代色.

This hiba stool can also be used as a bench or mini table to display your towels, soap and cosmetics in the bathroom.

Measures approx. 30cm wide and 30cm tall. While hiba is naturally resistant to water and mould, to keep the stool at its best we recommend wiping with a dry cloth after each use. Leave to dry in a well-ventilated area. If treated correctly, hiba wood products can last a very long time.
