Masakuni Bonsai Shears

£140

Play it cool everyone, play it cool. They’re here: the Masakuni steel shears. Talk about a major coup.

A bestselling bonsai shear in Japan for over 50 years. For bonsai, ikebana and all manner of general gardening tasks: cutting flowers, thinning, dead-heading pruning.

Emperor-quality, Masakuni tools are used in gardening ceremonies at the Tokyo Imperial Palace and the Masakuni brand has received a medal of honour from His Majesty the Emperor.

Bonsai masters Kyuzo Murata, Masahiko Kimura and Kunio Kobayashi also choose Masakuni tools.

I don’t need to say much more about Masakuni, their reputation precedes them. A bit like how you never see a Rolls Royce broken down at the side of the M1.

High quality tools will last a lifetime if you take care of them. After use: wipe off dirt, clean and dry thoroughly. Regularly wipe an oil such as camelia oil over the blade too, and store in a dry place. New tools won’t need sharpening for some time, but if you like you can use a sharpening stone.
