One for all you trainspotters out there: a vintage poster from a Japanese National Railways’ 'Discover Japan' advertising campaign. Featuring a nostalgic illustration of the steam locomotive C56, operational from 1935 to 1974, and the C57, operational from 1937 and finally retired from regular passenger service in December 1975.
FUN FACTS:
The C57 is unique for having the longest service record of any steam locomotive on the JR system without having been officially taken out of service even once.
Their nicknames amongst Japanese railfans are Shigoroku, Shigoro, Lady and Pony of the Plateau. (And yes I have had to delve quite deep into the Japanese trainspotting archives to discover this).
Our print is a reproduction of the original vintage advert, in bold colours and a retro aesthetic.
Fine art giclée print. Printed with archival pigment inks on 240gsm matte art paper. A reproduction based on the original image. Measures approx. 40 x 40cm. Unframed.
Presented in a poster tube.
