Aka Kiku Gold Necklace
£125
An absolutely one-of-a-kind piece of precious jewellery, created by the Nozomi Project, Japan.
‘Nozomi’ means 'hope' in Japanese. Founded in the wake of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, the Nozomi Project is a social enterprise based in Ishinomaki which employs and trains local people in the craft of jewellery making.
Each piece embraces the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi: there is beauty to be found in the broken. Pottery smashed in the earthquake is given a new lease of life, transformed by the artisans into stunning and unique pieces of jewellery.
‘Aka kiku’ means ‘red chrysanthemum’ in Japanese. The flower is a symbol of royalty, longevity and rejuvenation in Japanese culture.
Designed with a chunky gold cable chain and an ornate framed pendant. The chain and pendant are 24k gold plated, the charm is crafted from a fragment of china. Goes with everything from an everyday t-shirt to your favourite evening dress.
Chain length approx. 32 inches plus the charm. Tied with a spring ring clasp so it can be shortened.
Presented in a velvet pouch.
