Hanetsuki Paddle Set
£45
Hanetsuki is a traditional game played in Japan, a bit like battledore or badminton but without a net. It’s often enjoyed at new years to ‘drive away’ evil spirits and bring in good luck for the forthcoming year. And the wooden paddles are called hagoita.
These beautiful decorative hagoita are made from wood covered on both sides with hand-printed paper. They're made by the artisans of the Shinkogei workshop, founded by a local artist high up in the Hida mountains. The print features a woman in a kimono and a kabuki actor, classic hagoita motifs.
This is a decorative set for display. This set comes with a shuttlecock and you can actually use it to play hanetsuki but over time the paper may wear away.
Presented in a gift box.
