Carriage Letterpress Greeting Card
£3.50

This greeting card was made on a letterpress which gives it a lovely tactile feeling of ridges and impressions. It would also look smashing framed on a wall.
This caricature of life in Georgian Britain is attributed to Matthew Darly in 1776 and is currently held in the Bute Archive. Mocking the excesses of high fashion at the time, it illustrates the Georgian preoccupation with the latest trends and the style of their French contemporaries. Here two ladies are seen sitting on the floor of their carriage in order to fit inside with their oversized hair styles.
