During the Edo period in Japan samurai wore the Kamishimo, a traditional costume made up of the Kataginu or pleated-front vest and the Hakama or pleated pants/skirt. These pieces would often be worn over a kimono which could be spotted underneath.

They’re now the latest in contemporary Japanese street fashion, brought to the catwalk through collections by Vivienne Westwood, Yohji Yamamoto and OrSlow Japan.

This vintage pattern enables you to cut and sew your own version of this statement two-piece.

Comes presented in a Japanese-style sewn paper bag.

Unisex. Hakama: fits sizes between 24 and 42 inch waists. Kataginu: one size.

Since the Hakama is made from a large rectangle of fabric that is pleated to fit your body, this part does not have a large rectangle pattern piece which would waste paper. Rather, there are complete instructions for measuring, cutting, and pleating the traditional Hakama skirt/pant in any size.

Instructions are in English. Please note, as vintage patterns, the cover packaging may have a worn look.

Presented in a Japanese paper rice bag.
