The word ‘shokunin’ is defined in Japanese as ‘mastery of one’s profession’. Hand-made in Aichi Japan by woodworker Tomoharu Funahashi, these trinket boxes epitomise shokunin craftsmanship.

Tomoharu combines time-honoured Japanese woodworking traditions with innovative techniques, bending, planing, chiseling, turning and painting wood with great precision and attention to detail.

This beautiful round box features Tomoharu’s trademark shaker-style fastenings. Tactile impressions on the lid show the marks of the maker’s hand. It’s the kind of slow, mindful and considered design choice that we can get behind.
